Northeast Gateway Project Underway

NE Gateway web news graphic

Construction is underway on a project to improve safety, congestion and traffic flow at the intersection of Huntley Road, Wilson Bridge Road, and Worthington-Galena Road. Drivers may experience slight delays as lanes have shifted while new roadway is constructed.

Here's what's happening in Phase 1:

Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on East Wilson Bridge, Worthington Galena and Huntley Roads. Drivers may experience traffic delays due to shifts in lane configuration. Access to driveways for homes and businesses will be maintained. No road closures or detours will occur in Phase 1.

  • Huntley Road: northbound traffic will be shifted to the center lane while new northbound lanes are constructed.  Southbound lanes will not be affected at this time. Traffic will be maintained in both directions.
  • East Wilson Bridge Road: westbound traffic will be shifted to the center lane while new westbound lanes are constructed.  Eastbound lanes will not be affected at this time. Traffic will be maintained in both directions.
  • Worthington Galena Road north of East Wilson Bridge Road: northbound traffic will be shifted under the I-270 bridge, and reduced to one lane. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from Sancus Boulevard to just south of the I-270 bridge. Traffic will be maintained in both directions.
  • The duration of this phase depends on weather and how long it takes the new lanes to be constructed.

Northeast Gateway Project

Through a partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, the intersection is being reconfigured to include separate intersections and additional lanes of traffic, as well as pathways for bike and pedestrian movement. Beginning Monday, October 5, construction crews are working to prepare the roadway for construction, which is expected to last through summer 2022. During the early phases of the project, motorists should see minimal disruption. As construction continues, commuters can expect lane closures, road closures, detours, and other disruptions to traffic patterns.  The City of Worthington will work closely with ODOT, Paving the Way, local news outlets, as well as here on the City's website and through social media, to update road and travel conditions through the area.
