[ARCHIVED] Park Maintenance

The City of Worthington will be spraying herbicide to reduce honeysuckle this week at the Olentangy Parklands, East Granville Road Park (in the Moses Wright Nature Area) and at Park Boulevard Park.

Honeysuckle is an invasive species that shade out native vegetation, particularly in the woodland understory (as is the case along the Olentangy Trail, Moses Wright Nature Area and Park Boulevard Park). They are able to out-compete native trees, shrubs and wildflowers for light and other resources. In the fall honeysuckle holds its leaves longer than native species, making this the perfect time to apply an broad spectrum herbicide without damaging other dormant plants and trees nearby.
