April – National Public Safety Telecommunications Week

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW) is held annually during the second week of April to honor public safety telecommunicators for their commitment, service, and sacrifice. In 1994, Presidential Proclamation 6667 declared the second week of April as NPSTW to celebrate and thank telecommunications personnel across the nation who serve our communities, citizens, and public safety personnel 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Worthington Division of Police has partnered with the Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center of Dublin to provide the community with telecommunications services. To learn more about NRECC, and the important work that they do, please click here.

May - Light Ohio Blue & National Police Week

Light Ohio Blue is a statewide campaign to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Light Ohio Blue also strives to show support to the currently serving law enforcement personnel who protect our communities throughout our great state. Every year during May, The Worthington Division of Police offers blue light bulbs for a donation to our community to help show support for fallen officers as well as for our officers currently working patrol. Find out more about the Light Ohio Blue Campaign here

Light Ohio Blue coincides with National Police Week. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. This program is a partnership with our local elementary schools as well as businesses such as Meijer to offer a bright spot during the holiday season.
