Age-Friendly Worthington

What is Age-Friendly Worthington?

The Worthington community is committed to being a place that promotes successful aging and improves the quality of life for people of all ages. With this goal in mind, community partners are working together on the Age-Friendly Initiative to create and showcase community features and programs that impact the well-being of older adults and help make communities more livable for everyone.

A 14-person steering committee formed in late 2020 and is made up of community stakeholders, City staff, and older adults. The initiative is launching with a research and assessment phase, which includes surveys, focus groups, and evaluation of existing programs to understand needs that might exist in the Worthington community.

Age-Friendly Regional Survey Mailed to a Sample of Worthington Residents

A targeted sampling of Worthington residents age 50 and over have received the age-friendly regional community assessment survey in the mail.

Worthington is included in the regional survey conducted by the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging (COAAA), Franklin County Office on Aging (FCOA), and the Age-Friendly Innovation Center. These partners are mailing surveys to targeted residents throughout central Ohio, including Worthington. Worthington residents were randomly selected as representatives of our community at large.

The purpose of this initial assessment is to determine the needs of adults age 50 and over and to identify service gaps in eight counties, including Franklin County.

Worthington’s Age-Friendly Initiative (AFI) committee will receive the findings and also conduct Worthington-specific focus groups to provide another avenue for ideas and concerns to be heard. Focus groups will be both in-person and virtual. Locations, dates and times will be announced when they are available.

If you are one of the targeted Worthington residents who received a survey in the mail, we ask that you please take the time to complete it. Your experiences and ideas will be shared with Worthington AFI and will be fundamental not only to our initiative but to the entire central Ohio regional effort. If you were not contacted by mail, you can take the survey online here.

We look forward to hearing the voices, experiences and ideas of Worthington’s older residents. Your input is critical to inform, update and improve our city’s programs and policies and help make Worthington an even better place to live and to age well.
