Solid Waste Collection
General The City of Worthington provides refuse, recycling, and yard waste collections to all single-family, two-family, and condominium residences within the City. Residents are not billed directly for this extensive service.
Currently, the City of Worthington has contracted collection services with Rumpke of Ohio, Inc. Refuse is taken to the Franklin County Landfill which is operated by the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO). Due to the landfill's ban on yard waste, all yard waste is diverted to a composting facility and recycled into mulch. All recycling is taken to Rumpke's Material Recycling Facility (MRF) located in Columbus. For more information on solid waste in Franklin County, go to www.swaco.org.
Collection Day
Refuse, recycling and yard waste collections take place on Friday on a year-round basis. All items are to be placed at the curb or edge of the paved roadway no later than 6:00AM Friday. By City Ordinance, no items may be placed curbside before 6:00AM Thursday and empty containers must be removed by 6:00PM Saturday. RESIDENTS MUST HAVE SOLID WASTE AT THE CURB BY 6:00AM FRIDAY. Rumpke is not required to pick up any solid waste set at the curb late.
Holidays
Collections will be moved to Saturday following the Holiday during these weeks:
- New Year's Day (January 1)
- Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
- Independence Day (July 4)
- Labor Day (First Monday in September)

- Christmas Day (December 25)
For all other holidays, collection will continue to occur on Friday unless otherwise noted by newspaper or post card.

Sharps Containers

Additional containers may be obtained at the Service Department at no charge.
Damaged Containers
If a container is damaged through the fault of Rumpke, please report the incident to the Service Department. Rumpke will reimburse the purchase of a new container. Damaged recycling bins may be exchanged for new bins at the Service Department at no additional fee.

Yard Waste Drop-off
The Service Department offers a free yard waste drop-off for all Worthington residents. Residents may drop off their yard waste weekdays 8:00AM to 4:00PM and the last Saturday of each month (March to October) between 12PM and 3PM. There are no quantity, size, nor bundling restrictions.
