Because of the increasing regularity of waterline breaks on E Wilson Bridge Rd., the City contracted with MS Consultants, Inc. to design a waterline replacement project. The designed project was put out to bid in January and the contract was awarded to Columbus Asphalt Paving Inc.
As can be seen on the plans and in the image below, the project extends from the railroad tracks near McCord Park along a straight line to the west for 3400 feet onto Old Wilson Bridge Rd.
Most work will be limited to the center turn lane. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the project with minor disruptions due to equipment movement.
The work is expected to begin the week of March 18th with initial setup and pavement cutting. Soon after, excavation will begin near the railroad tracks. The work zone will slowly work westward with the placement of the new waterline.
Once the new waterline is in place, tested, chlorinated and charged, crews will begin moving water services from the old main to the new. This changeover does involve some period of water service loss typically lasting about an hour. The contractor will notify affected residents and businesses in advance.
The project is expected to take 120 days. Soon after, the City plans on repaving E Wilson Bridge Rd from the railroad tracks to High St.
We appreciate your patience during the process and encourage you to drive slowly in the work zone in order to protect the workers improving our infrastructure.

The new water main pipe has been installed except for the final tie-ins. For the next week or two the Contractor will be installing new fire hydrants and extending large water connections across the road.
